History

Brisbane Valley is named after the Brisbane River, which was explored by John Oxley, an explorer, in 1823 and named after Sir Thomas Brisbane, the then Governor of New South Wales.

Brisbane Valley district was formed in 1957 [1], and closed in 1973, and was, with Lockyer district, absorbed into Atkinson district [2].  In 1957, Brisbane Valley district’s first District Commissioner was J.C.V. Green, formerly of 4th Cub Master, Esk Cub Scout pack [3, 4].
