The badge was designed in 1963 by Howard Brown who was a Cub, Scout and Senior Scout with Taringa Group between 1953/54 to the early 1960s. Whilst designing the badge, he was a student at the Queensland Teacher’s College, Kelvin Grove. Mr Brown undertook the design of the Brisbane West district and also the programme cover of the 1963 Brisbane Gang Show . [4]
The badge was first issued in April 1964 [5].

History
Brisbane West district is named after the Brisbane River, which was explored by John Oxley, an explorer, in 1823 and named after Sir Thomas Brisbane, the then Governor of New South Wales. Brisbane West district was probably formed around 1943, and at the time its District Commissioner was C.W. Noble [1]. In 1972, Brisbane West district closed and its groups joined Tyakunda district [2,3].
