History

Garraboo is the aboriginal word for “North” [1].  It was formed in 1966, and was one of the original three districts in the Darling Downs Area.  Its first District Commissioner was Nevile de Hay.  Garraboo district was formed from part of Toowoomba and Cambonara districts in 1966 [1, 2].  The first District Commissioner was Neville de Hay [5].  In 1978, Cambanora District closed, and its groups are absorbed by Garraboo District and Steele Rudd District. [3]   In 1990, Garraboo district closed and with Steele Rudd district and Koala district combined to form Eastern Downs District. [4]

Garraboo District Groups (1966):  2nd Toowoomba Scout Group, Bunya Park (3rd Toowoomba) Scout Group, Harlaxton (later Harlaxton-Mt Lofty) Scout Group, Holy Name (9th Toowoomba) Scout Group and Rockville Scout Group. [5]
