History
Griffith district is named after the electorate of Griffith in Brisbane, which is named after Sir Samuel Griffith, former Governor of Queensland (1883) and a principal author of the Constitution of Australia [1]. The division of Griffith was created in 1934, replacing the seat of Oxley which had been established in 1900. In terms of scouting, Griffith district was established in 1953, and its first District Commissioner was K.L. Frankel, appointed on 22/5/1953 [2, 3]. Griffith district closed and was last mentioned in the Brisbane South Area Directory in 1988, and the last District Commissioner was Norm Williams [4].
