History

Kingsford Smith district is named after Charles Kingsford Smith, aviator who was born in Hamilton, Brisbane, and who made the first Trans-Pacific flight from the USA to Australia in 1928 [1].  The aircraft was a Fokker Tri-Motor called the Southern Cross.  He landed in Eagle Farm.  The aircraft is on display outside Brisbane Airport.

Kingsford-Smith district was established on the 22nd September 1955 [1].  In 1959, the District Commissioner was n. J. Taylor [2].  It closed, and was last mentioned in Brisbane South Area Directories in 1987, and parts of Kingsford Smith district were amalgamated with Griffith District to form Logan City District [3, 4].
