History

Tyakunda district is named after the Aboriginal word for rolling hills [1], which depicts the hills in the locality.  Tyakanda district was orginally formed around 1965, and the first District Commissioner (Acting) was Dr H. E. Young [2] .  In 1972, groups from Brisbane West district was absorbed into Tyakunda district [3].  The Tyakunda District badge was designed by Trevor Rees-Thomas a Cub Scout Leader with either the 1^st or 3^rd Toowong Scout Group [4].
